MSFW 2014: David Jones Runway

David Jones and fashion are synonomous – always have been – and today proved why they always will be. The attention to detail was meticulous, and in true Melbourne style the show was chic, and of course elegant but in no way lacking in flare or fun.
The runway was held at ‘The Hub’ in Melbourne’s city centre, and showcased looks from an array of international and local designers in anticipation of spring racing season. It was so exciting to see Australian labels like Manning Cartell and Nicola Finetti along side the big international labels like Yevs Saint Laurent and Charlotte Olympia.
So what does this mean for spring racing? Here’s the lowdown:
1. Tailoring
Clean lines and crisp silhouettes were the show stoppers. Think man-like tailoring with a feminine edge.
2. Prints
This may seem like an obvious one, but prints – both the more modern geometric and the classic floral – are sure to make waves this racing season. We’re used to sorbet colours and bright patterns with our florals, but this season keep an eye out for darker more subdued colours.
3. The A-line skirt
Think Kate Middleton meets Oliva Palermo. These were a hit on the David Jones runway, and no doubt will be too come spring racing!
